More About Otterbein College and Central Ohio
Climate
Central Ohio experiences a variety of seasons and temperatures ranging from warm and hot days in the spring and summer (11 C average in April, 25 C in July) to cool and cold days in fall and winter (14 C in October, 0 C in January). You will need warm clothing, including heavy coats for winter, and lighter outfits for spring and summer. Rain, snow, and ice do occur, so raincoats and boots are often needed, too.
Location
Otterbein College is located in Westerville, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, the state capital. Westerville, with a population of approximately 37,000, retains the advantages of a small safe town while offering the amenities that go with a modern community. Our proximity to Columbus, one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, means that big city attractions are only minutes away. At Otterbein you will feel neither crowded or isolated. Residence Halls
Most students live in Otterbein's residence halls, which offer them a chance for involvement with many new people from backgrounds different from their own. International students are almost always housed with American students. Unless other arrangements are made, international students are generally required to live in the residence halls their first two years at Otterbein. Students 22 years of age or older are not required to live on campus. Click here to go to the Housing section of our site.
Student Activities
Otterbein has a wide variety of organizations: clubs, honoraries, service groups, religious organizations, varsity and intramural athletic teams, committees, sororities, fraternities, artistic organizations, and musical groups. Check out the Student Life section of this site to learn more about what's going on at Otterbein.
As members of the International Students Association, one of the most active organizations on campus, U.S. and International students participate in social and cultural events and travel to points of interest in Ohio and out of state as well. The International Students Programs section of this site has more information about the programs that will make you feel at home at Otterbein.
Otterbein's governance system provides for considerable student participation. Faculty and staff members work together with students in all facets of this unique and widely hailed plan called College Senate. Otterbein believes in student involvement in the daily life and future plans of the College.
