Dear Alumni & Friends,
Oh, how time flies! Another academic year is over. Another senior class has graduated. Another Alumni Weekend is now in the history books. With all these endings come new beginnings. As one senior class graduates, another freshmen class prepares for their college journey. As one 50-year class concludes their golden reunion, the next golden reunion class is busy making preparations for their celebration. Time marches on.
This issue of the Alumni e-Newsletter recaps the spring celebrations and gives you a sneak peek at the many offerings in the works for the coming academic year. This is not to say that we are cooling our heels in the Office of Alumni Relations this summer. Quite the contrary! Read on to learn about summer activities for our alumni and friends.
We do have one quick reminder. As you may recall, in the May issue we announced a contest to find a name for this e-newsletter. We have received very clever and original suggestions. The deadline for contest submissions is August 1. At their August meeting, the Alumni Council will vote on their favorite entry and the winner will be announced in the September e-newsletter.
Good luck!

A Better Online Experience
The Alumni Online Directory...a new way to connect with old friends.
When the new online directory launches this summer it will be even easier to stay connected with your fellow alumni.
With the online directory you will be able to:
update your personal information
connect with old friends from your days at Otterbein
find and connect with alumni in your region, your state, and around the world
share information about your life
read about your friends' lives
stay connected with Otterbein
Our technical gurus are in the process of making final modifications to the directory. In the meantime, if you need assistance contacting a fellow alumna/us, contact us directly by e-mail or call 614-823-1650 or 1-888-614-2600.
New & Improved Alumni Website
Since a new online directory is in the works, we decided it was time to overhaul the website design. The next time you are surfing the 'net, take a moment to check out the new website. Amy Householder, Otterbein's webmaster, is the creator of our new look. She made it graphically more pleasing and improved the navigation. We are very pleased with the product, and hope that you enjoy it too!

Graduate Students' Reception
The graduate students were honored at a reception on June 6 after commencement rehearsal. |
"My years at Otterbein made a huge impact on me. It is hard to pinpoint one experience because it is the little and the big things that changed who I am as a person. Going into Otterbein, I wasn't quite sure if I would be able to survive the first quarter. Everything was so new to me and I didn't think I would be able to adjust. But now I know that I am a better person because of this experience. I am leaving Otterbein with a better head on my shoulders and I am confident in myself because I know that I am able to achieve anything if I put my mind to it."

Otterbein College Receives Numerous Grants
Otterbein recently received a grant of $57,641 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to fund Otterbein's CCLI - Visual Spatial Learning project. The project uses web-based materials to help students and faculty visualize and teach three-dimensional molecular symmetry. The software displays and animates symmetry elements and operations in ways that cannot be achieved with physical models.
Otterbein received a grant of $4,000 from the Nationwide Foundation to fund The George H. Dunlap Scholarship for 2006. The scholarship money is granted to students majoring in business administration and/or social sciences.
Otterbein also received a grant of $3,500 from the Institute for Library and Information Literacy Education to fund a project titled "Learning More about our Constitution." The project is a collaboration between the College and Westerville City Schools that will enable Otterbein students studying middle childhood education to become more aware of information literacy efforts in the K-12 arena and experience first-hand the value of collaboration between teachers and school library media specialists.
Senior Legacy Program
During the spring quarter of 2006 a small group of seniors founded the 2006 Senior Legacy Committee. Throughout the quarter committee members personally solicited their fellow students to "Leave their Legacy at Otterbein." The Senior Legacy Committee has successfully raised over $1,100 in cash and pledges for the college's Annual Fund to date.
