  Phi Alpha Theta

Phi Alpha Theta is the National Honorary Society for undergraduate students in history. The Beta Zeta chapter at Otterbein seeks to bring together students and faculty in discussions of history and through various other programs designed to open conversation and free-thinking. In the past, the Beta Zeta chapter has sponsored a movie series looking at history through Hollywood’s lens, and a series of guest-lecturers who come and discuss with Otterbein students their research into non-mainstream history. Phi Alpha Theta is discussing taking trips to various historic sites in the states surrounding Ohio as well as performing community service for Westerville to show our civic pride. We are dedicated to providing non-traditional views of history, as well as encouraging open discussion to further learning. Phi Alpha Theta is designed to allow students to freely and openly discuss their own ideas about the historical transition of both our nation and the world in an understanding and accepting atmosphere.

Mentoring Program
Our newest program that we are proud of is the Phi Alpha Theta mentoring program, whereby the upperclassmen members of Phi Alpha Theta mentor underclassmen. During the year, the Phi Alpha Theta members provide insights on adjusting to college life, getting used to professors and their styles and expectations, helping other students with their own style, and, in some cases, tutoring them if necessary. The program is designed to generate greater unity within the department, both between the students and the faculty.
