Health Promotion and Fitness Major

The Health Promotion and Fitness Major at Otterbein College prepares students to work in fields related to exercise, fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle management. Students work in a hands-on environment to learn to develop, direct, assess and evaluate fitness and wellness. Courses provide the student with the academic foundation necessary to understand the concepts of physical fitness and activity, nutrition and human behavior and how these factors influence health and well-being.

Coursework in health promotion and fitness prepares students to take exams for certification as a personal trainer, exercise specialist, strength and conditioning specialist, youth fitness trainer, aerobics instructor, and/or wellness consultant. Certification exams are offered by nationally approved organizations such as the American College of Sport Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, American Council on Exercise, Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, and/or the International Association of Fitness Professionals.
