Nursing Honorary Society

Kappa Lambda Chapter is a chartered member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. The society was established in 1922 by six nurses from Indiana and is now the second largest nursing organization in the world with 406 chapters in 90 different countries and territories. The name Sigma Theta Tau is derived from the initials of the Greek words Storga, Tharos, and Tima, which means love, courage, and honor. The mission of the society is to provide leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research to enhance the health of all people. It does this by:

Membership is by invitation to baccalaureate and graduate nursing student who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, and to community leaders who exhibit exceptional achievements in nursing. Kappa Lambda Chapter has inducted over 350 members since its beginning in 1988. Senior undergraduate nursing students and graduate nursing students who have completed over a quarter their program with a GPA of 3.0 are eligible for membership pending final approval by chapter members at the annual voting meeting. New members are inducted in the fall of the year.
