Gerry D’Arcy enters his
20th season as the head men’s soccer coach at
Otterbein College.
Under his direction, the Cardinals have advanced into the NCAA Division III
Tournament five times, winning five post-season Ohio
Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournaments, as well as winning or sharing the OAC
regular-season title four times.
D’Arcy helped lead Otterbein to its best season ever in 2002. The Cardinals
recorded a school and conference record 23 wins and finished second in the NCAA
Division III Tournament. The Cardinals captured both the OAC regular-season and
tournament championships in 2002, earning D’Arcy OAC Coach of the Year, Ohio
Coach of the Year, and Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors. He was also
selected OAC Coach of the Year in 1997 and 1999.
A native of London, England, D’Arcy possesses an extensive coaching
background. He is a USSF “A” licensed coach and works as a staff coach for
the USSF licensing other coaches. He has conducted coaching sessions for the
NSCAA and is a coordinator for Great Britain Buckeye Soccer Camps, Inc. D’Arcy
has worked as a staff coach for the Olympic Development Program at the district,
state, and regional level for many years.
D’Arcy completed his undergraduate teaching qualifications at prestigious
Loughborough University in England and his master’s degree at Kent State
University.
“We
aim to give our soccer athletes a four-year education in soccer,” D’Arcy
says. “Our concern is the process of effort, growth and enjoyment in their
college soccer experience. Team and personal recognition and awards will be
natural by-products of this endeavor.”
