Teacher Licensure Programs

Teacher Education Programs
 at Otterbein College

Beginning September, 1998, the Education Department instituted the new licensure requirements passed by the Ohio Legislature during fall, 1996.  The new requirements call for licensure based on four different age groupings:

  • Early Childhood Education (undergraduate and post-baccalaureate levels)
  • Middle Childhood Education (undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and Master of Arts in Teaching levels)
  • Adolescence to Young Adult Education (undergraduate and post-baccalaureate levels)
  • Multi-Age Education (undergraduate and post-baccalaureate levels)
Early Childhood Teaching License  
The early childhood program (B.S.E.) leads to licensure for teaching ages three through eight or pre-kindergarten through grade three. One concentration area required from:
Early Childhood Intervention (includes 2nd license); Language Arts; Language/Culture:  Deaf Community; Mathematics; Reading (includes endorsement); Science; Social Studies
Middle Childhood Teaching License  
The middle childhood program (B.S.E.) leads 
to licensure for teaching ages 8-14 (grades 4-9).
Two concentration areas required from:
Language Arts; Mathematics; Science; Social Studies
Adolescence to Young Adult Teaching Licensure  
The adolescence to young adult programs lead to licensure for teaching ages 12-21 (grades 7-12). Available areas include:
Integrated Language Arts (English Literature Major); Integrated Mathematics; Integrated Social Studies (History Major); Life Sciences; Physical Sciences
Multi-Age Teaching Licensure  
The multi-age programs lead to a licensure for teaching ages 3 to 21 (Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12). Available areas include:
Art; Foreign Language (French or Spanish); Health; Music; Physical Education
Other Program Offerings  

Master of Arts in Teaching - Middle Childhood
Master of Arts in Education (for licensed teachers only)

Endorsements are available in the following areas:
Reading (Undergraduate/Graduate)

 

A professional pupil services license is available in the following area:
