Only courses in which the student has received a grade of ‘C-‘ or higher will be considered for transfer credits at Otterbein College. (Individual department’s minimum grade requirements may vary.) The credit hours will transfer but quality points (GPA’s) do not. If a course has been repeated, credit for only one course transfers. If the student repeats a course at Otterbein College, credit for the previously transferred course will be removed. However, when we review the transcripts for admission to Otterbein College, we will consider all course work the student has completed, including courses in which ‘D’ or ‘F’ grades were earned.

A community or junior college program can be designed to provide the first half of a Bachelor's degree (180 quarter hours at Otterbein College). Therefore, Otterbein College accepts a maximum of 90 transferable quarter hours from any and all two-year schools.

To meet the residence requirement for a Bachelor’s degree, a student must complete at least 60 quarter hours of classroom instruction at Otterbein College. At least 30 of the final 45 hours must be completed at Otterbein or in an Otterbein-approved program, such as the Dijon, France program. Transient course work taken at another institution, regardless of whether it was cleared through the Office of the Registrar, may not be included in the 30 hours.

At least 15 quarter hours in the student’s major field must be completed at Otterbein College for all degrees. Bachelor’s degree candidates must complete these hours at the 300 or 400 course level. In addition, at least two Integrative Studies courses must be completed in residence. One of these must be at the 300/400 level.

Students may gain college credit through the following options:

professional training credits as recommended by the American Council on Education in the National Guide to Educational Credit for Training Programs. (maximum credit = 25 quarter hours)
military credit as recommended by the American Council on Education in the Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services
technical credits (maximum credit = 12 quarter hours)
testing (maximum credit = 60 quarter hours)
Advanced Placement Examination
College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Proficiency Examination Program (PEP)
on-campus credit by examination

The first step in the transfer process is to contact The Office of Adult Enrollment at (614) 823-1356.

You will need to provide official transcripts from all prior schools. Your transfer credits will then be evaluated and you will receive a written list of the credits to be awarded at Otterbein. We hope to hear from you!
