In June 2007, construction began on a $20 million project to modernize and expand the current facilities and purchase new equipment. Features of the new science center include:
- A 30,000 sq. ft. addition to the south side of Schear Hall
- McFadden Hall totally renovated and updated
- Schear Hall transformed within and integrated into the new addition
- An atrium and a plaza facing Battelle Hall
- New greenhouses with separate teaching and research components
- A total of over 96,000 square feet of well-equipped laboratories, technologically advanced classrooms, and dedicated research space.
The new Science Center will house the following departments: Chemistry and Biochemistry, Equine Science, Life and Earth Science, Nursing, and Physics and Astronomy.
