Watch the Science Building Renovation!

May 2008

Watch a short movie clip The entire steel structure of the 30,000 sq. ft. addition to Schear Hall is now standing. The large metal frame allows everyone to see just how enormous the completed science center will be. Construction crews are currently working on floors and ceilings on the new structure. New stairways have been installed on the west side of the building. Once the building is complete, this stairway will be visible from outside the structure through the large windows.

The atrium is also taking shape. Soon this space will be a gathering place and grand entrance into the new facility. Currently plywood is covering the missing walls between the original Schear Hall structure and the new addition. Crews will soon begin removing all of these walls between Schear Hall and the new structure. In addition, the interior framing for the new classrooms, laboratories and offices will be underway soon.

All of these major developments are being completed while classes are held in the McFadden Hall portion of the science center, which was completed and reopened in January 2008 (check out photos of the completed McFadden Hall here). Minimal distractions have been reported throughout the construction process thanks to careful planning by Messer Construction and the Otterbein College Service Department.
