October 2007
The past month has produced some dramatic transformations to McFadden Hall. Demolition on the interior is complete and the disposal shoots have been removed. Now the crew is configuring the new look of the interior according to the floor plans.
The new windows have been installed. The view from the classrooms and labs is spectacular! The natural lighting gives a warm and inviting feel to the space even though the walls, ceilings and floors are not yet finished. Within every set of windows there will be telescopic windows that can be opened to provide fresh air. These energy efficient windows drastically change the appearance of the building.
The crew is currently working diligently to frame the interior of the building. The fourth floor is almost completely framed and drywall has been installed in several locations. New office, classroom and lab spaces are taking shape. The electrical wiring, duct work and gas lines are also being installed.
Raising the ceilings has been one of the tasks that the crew has been working on. Duct work, piping and wiring has been reconfigured where possible to accommodate higher ceilings. In several areas throughout the building the new dropdown ceiling frames have been installed.
Classes are scheduled to resume in McFadden Hall in January. The crew is confident that the project will be completed on time. Construction and renovation on Schear Hall is scheduled to begin after the first of the year. Stay tuned for continuing updates on the new science center.
