International Graduate Nursing Student Application Process
In addition to the admission application and application materials required as part of your program's application process, you must provide the following to the Graduate School:
- First things first - Prior to beginning the admission process, you must contact the Otterbein College Nursing Department Professional Review Committee chair.
- Supplemental Application for Admission - Please submit the Supplemental Application for Graduate Students to the Graduate Program.
- Academic Credentials - An official transcript from all comparable post-secondary institution(s) listing all courses taken, grades and degrees earned, and dates of graduation must be submitted to the Graduate Program. An English language translation must accompany all foreign language documents.
- Evaluation of Academic Credentials - If your academic credentials are from an institution outside of the United States, you are required to provide a World Education Services, Inc. (WES) course-by-course evaluation of all post-secondary credentials. It is your responsibility to provide the necessary paperwork and payment to WES, and to request a copy of the report be sent to the Graduate School at Otterbein College. We must receive the completed WES report by the appropriate admission deadline. The evaluation copy provided to Otterbein College becomes an official academic record document and the sole property of the College upon receipt.
WES will complete and mail your evaluation within ten business days from the day all documents are received. For an extra charge they will provide rush services for same-day and three-day evaluations.
Forms for evaluation by WES are available from the Graduate School, the Registrar's Office or may be downloaded from the WES website at www.wes.org. You may also request an application from WES by e-mail, or you can call, fax or write to WES. For more information on WES, please see their web site. - TOEFL - If your first language is not English, you must send an official report of your TOEFL score to the Graduate School. Our institutional code is 1597. You will need to score at least a 550 minimum for the paper-based test or a 213 minimum for the computer-based test. Effective September 2005, ETS introduced a new TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) that includes four skill scores: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. The minimum score for the iBT is a 79 although departments may set a separate minimum score(s). If you have questions about the TOEFL or would like to receive an information bulletin, please see the TOEFL web site at www.toefl.org.
- Proof of Financial Support - Please send a current bank statement, an Affidavit of Support, and/or a sponsor's letter indicating that sufficient funds are on deposit or can be made available and will be used for your education to the Graduate School. List funds in U.S. dollars. Please complete the Proof of Financial Support form and submit it along with your documentation. All documents must be originals. Photocopies or faxes will not be accepted.
- Copy of visa/green card - If you already hold a visa or are a U.S. resident alien (with a green card) you must submit a copy or your visa/green card along with the Supplemental Application.
- International Transfer Applicants - If you are transferring to Otterbein College from another U.S. college or university, you along with International Student Advisor must complete an International Transfer Applicant Form.
- Deadline - In order to process admission and immigration documents in a timely manner, international applicants are asked to submit all admission materials, including the WES evaluation and proof of financial support, no later than two months prior to the start of the term for which they are applying.
Upon the receipt of your application for a graduate program, the Graduate School will send additional information to you. We hope that you will find answers to your questions on this web site; however, if you'd like to ask a specific question, please e-mail our office at grad@otterbein.edu.
