September 26, 2017
Otterbein University

Westerville, OH— The Otterbein University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Michael Yonchak, will present its first concert of the fall semester at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall. This concert is free and open to the public.

Titled “Songs and Stories,” the program will include works that relate to the art of storytelling through literal connections to written prose, as well as more abstract explorations. The evening will feature compositions by Percy Grainger, David Maslanka, Duke Ellington, and Frank Ticheli. Opening the program will be the Otterbein Percussion Ensemble on William Duckworth’s “Gymel” — a “puzzle” piece for keyboard quartet.

The wind ensemble is excited to feature guest soloist  Ben Huntoon on Sammy Nestico’s “Rhapsody for Flugelhorn and Symphonic Band.” An active professional trumpet player, Huntoon regularly performs in a wide variety of musical genres, ranging from regional theatrical companies (The Broadway Series, Players Theater of Columbus and Gallery Players Theater) to roles as a featured jazz soloist and member of numerous international, national and regional jazz personalities (the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Vaughn Wiester's Famous Jazz Orchestra, The New Remnants Dance Orchestra and Guy Lombardo’s Royal Canadians).
