Westerville, OH—Otterbein University won the top honor for its entry titled, The Point at Otterbein University Grand Opening, in The Pride of CASE V Awards, sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Otterbein earned the Gold Award in the Excellence in Special Events, Individual Event category for its work on the grand opening of The Point, a new science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) innovation center at Otterbein, which was held Oct. 1, 2016. Otterbein topped three others in the category including Kalamazoo College, University of Michigan, and Bowling Green State University.

“This event was a great team effort with all hands on deck to help plan and execute,” said Jennifer Pearce, executive director of marketing and communications. “We worked with multiple offices and departments to create a special day that brought more than 300 guests to the wire cutting ceremony and tours. We valued our partners from the City of Westerville, delegates from the state of Ohio as well as our business tenants who were engaged to make it a memorable and successful opening day.”

Otterbein will receive the award at the CASE District V Annual Conference Dec. 10-12 in Chicago. Several members of Otterbein’s division of Institutional Advancement are scheduled to make presentations at the conference, including Candace Brady, executive director of development for individual giving; Nick Wood, director of development; and Lucy Cryan, executive director of organizational planning and events.

The Point, an economic driver and collaborative partnership with business and industry, the City of Westerville and the State of Ohio, has re-defined the future of higher education as students, faculty and partners integrate the STEAM fields with an experiential, hands-on learning environment. The collaboration will drive economic growth for the region through business development and job creation, while providing student experiences through internships, capstone projects and research initiatives. This one-of-a-kind concept has been identified as a model of the 21st century education.

In addition to the highly-coveted CASE award, the Otterbein marketing and communications team also won a PRSA Prism Award from the Central Ohio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, and a Hermes Creative Award, an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional materials and programs, and emerging technologies, for The Point grand opening.
