I am a Writer
Tony DeGenaro
Department: English
Major: Creative Writing
Class: 2012

As the managing editor of Otterbein’s semi-annual Quiz and Quill publication, Tony is well on his way to becoming a successful writer.

“Not only do I get to know the creative process, but I also watch my staff work hard to see the finest quality of magazine and books come out,” he said. “There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the work of my fellow students, published by fellow students.”

Tony realized his potential near the end of his freshman year when he a poem of his was featured in the Quiz and Quill. He received a cash prize as a result.

“That validation, not even with the money, but just the acknowledgement and affirmation of my writing, has been a warm feeling I still keep today,” DeGenaro said.

Tony has also been actively involved with the student radio station, WOBN, as well as Sigma Tau Delta fraternity. In addition to his work throughout campus, Tony had the opportunity to teach poetry at Grandview Heights High School, which he cites as one of the most profound moments of his undergraduate studies.
Tony encourages new Otterbein students to “not wait for the abundance of life to occur for them, but rather to assert and demand it. Ask difficult questions, seek answers, and be energized and invigorated by learning.”
