“A Grand Night for Singing” final production of the summer season

Otterbein Summer Theatre concludes its 50th anniversary season with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “A Grand Night for Singing” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7; 2 p.m. on July 10 and July 15; and8 p.m. on July 8-9, July 14-16 and July 21-23, in Riley Auditorium at the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St., Westerville. Tickets cost $30. Call 614-823-1109 or visit www.otterbein.edu/drama.

Broadway’s tribute to the genius of Rodgers and Hammerstein is truly ”A Grand Night for Singing.” This Tony-nominated Best Musical shows how wonderfully timeless their music is. The audience will love the sultry Andrews Sisters-esque “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out-a My Hair.” Find out “How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?” sung by a lovelorn young lad. Take delight in “Shall We Dance?” when it’s a comic pas de deux. There are more than 30 songs from Rodgers and Hammerstein shows, including ”Oklahoma!,” “The Sound of Music” and “Cinderella.” It doesn’t get any grander than this!

“A Grand Night for Singing,” the third production of the Otterbein Summer Theatre 50th anniversary season, will be directed by David Hemsley Caldwell, a favorite among central Ohio theater audiences. Caldwell, a 1986 graduate of Otterbein University, is celebrating anniversaries of his own — “A Grand Night for Singing” marks his 40th production with Otterbein, and his 20th as director.

Tickets are $30 each and can be reserved by calling the Otterbein University box office at (614) 823-1109 or purchased online at www.otterbein.edu/drama. The box office is open 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday throughFriday and one hour prior to performances. The box office is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville. Student rush discounts are available one hour prior to curtain, pending ticket availability.
