Otterbein Financial Aid Boot Camp to cover financial aid landscape and process

Preparing to send a student to college can be a daunting task, emotionally and financially. In an effort to help navigate the financial aid process, Otterbein University will host Financial Aid Boot Camps from 6-7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30 and Thursday, Jan. 7, in Roush Hall at Otterbein’s main Westerville Campus.

Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid Kirsten Crotte said this is an opportunity for parents and students to alleviate many concerns surrounding paying for school.

“We understand that finding and securing financial aid for a prospective student can be a major stressor for families,” Crotte said. “What we wanted to do at Otterbein was offer the community a way to learn about financial aid and become more comfortable with the entire process.”

The free, hour long presentation will begin with an introduction by the Office of Admission, followed by the Office of Financial Aid discussing definitions, deadlines, different types of aid, how to apply, ins and outs of the FAFSA and any special circumstances that may occur. A question and answer session will immediately follow the presentation where attendees can have their questions answered regarding both admissions and financial aid.

Attendees will also learn how Otterbein is committed to making an education accessible and affordable for incoming students.

“These sessions will provide a more individualized approach to financial aid than just a pamphlet or email,” said Crotte. “We want everyone to leave the sessions feeling like they now can ‘speak the language’ of financial aid and feel empowered to take the next steps towards their education.”
