Otterbein graduate student invited to U.S. Dept. of Education convening

Caleb Slavinski, a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Education Mathematics program, was recently invited to the United States Department of Education for the convening on systems of support for excellent teaching and leading 2017. This one-day meeting was designed to gather feedback and insights from educators and education organizations around the departments’ work on “Framework of Best Practices in Educator Supports.” It is a working document that is being provided for states and schools to use to plan professional learning, and monitor the design delivery and efficacy of professional learning programs. Slavinski was invited to attend the convening because he had led a TeachtoLead team during the Columbus, Ohio summit.

He met with a group of other teacher leaders, along with several members of the United States Department of Education teaching fellows to discuss thoughts around two topics from the framework.

“I gained a valuable tool for monitoring the productivity and fidelity with which my district provides professional learning and several key educators to help our district as we implement our TeachtoLead project,” Slavinski commented.
