Otterbein student Paris Ring ’18 awarded two scholarships from OFIC

Balancing involvement, internships and academics can be a difficult task — any Otterbein student could tell you that. However, that hard work does not go unnoticed. Many students have been recognized by Otterbein faculty and staff for their outstanding ability to handle heavy schedules. One such student is Paris Ring ’18.

Ring is a junior marketing major with a double minor in marketing analytics and Spanish and Latin American Studies. In addition to an exceptionally high GPA, Ring is involved with the Otterbein Business Association, the Torch and Key honor society, and Alpha Lambda Delta-Phi Eta Sigma honor society. She also has an off campus internship.

People at Otterbein noticed all of her accomplishments and at the end of her first year, she was put forth to receive a scholarship from the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC). When Ring found out about this, she wrote a thank you note to OFIC as well as to Bancorp, the company that funded the scholarship she received.

Because of her thank you letter, Ring was invited to give a testimonial at OFIC’s annual Evening of Excellence. She described the experience as “nerve-wracking” but she was very excited about it as well.

“I was very prepared and could see how engaged the crowd was,” she said. “It was an awesome experience, and I think it has helped me to speak publically.”

Her speech was about her father, who was very sick at the time and how grateful her family was for the scholarship she received. It was so touching and appreciated by the OFIC that they decided to reward her again.

“OFIC scholarships are usually only one year, but because I did that testimonial, they gave me another scholarship for the following year. This time it would be funded by Huntington Bank. I’m very appreciative of their generosity,” Ring said.

Many students have been given scholarships because of their noticeable involvement on campus, and Otterbein is proud to be able to offer awards and to sponsor students such as Paris Ring.
