Otterbein Summer Theatre 2017 Opens Season with “My Fair Lady”

Otterbein Summer Theatre 2017 Opens Season with “My Fair Lady”

The Otterbein Summer Theatre 2017 season will open with “My Fair Lady” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 1; 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 11, and 18; and 8 p.m. on June 8-10, June 15 and 16, and June 22-24 ONSTAGE in the Fritsche Theatre, 30 S. Grove St. Tickets cost $33. Call 614-823-1109 or visit www.otterbein.edu/drama.

Otterbein’s production of “My Fair Lady” will be directed by Lenny Leibowitz and will feature a resourceful cast of 11—many playing multiple roles—and a radically re-imagined scenic design that eschews elaborate set changes, placing primacy instead on actor-driven ingenuity and a joyous sense of theatricality.

“I love the challenge of re-envisioning a big musical in a small space; it can be a thrilling, exhilarating experience for audiences and artists alike to encounter a show like ‘My Fair Lady’ in a setting much more intimate than they may be accustomed to when experiencing a large-scale musical,” Leibowitz explained.

The tale of a cockney flower girl transformed into an elegant woman, “My Fair Lady,” features one of musical theatre’s greatest scores. Songs include “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?,” “With a Little Bit of Luck,” “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “Get Me to the Church on Time,” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.”

The box office is open 12-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to performances. It is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville. Student Rush discounts are available one hour prior to curtain, pending ticket availability.
