Written by English playwright Caryl Churchill in 1982, Top Girls is a sharp-witted, imaginative, and profound examination of the choices women often continue to face as they climb the corporate ladder and are forced to choose between work and family. Marlene has been promoted to managing director of a London employment agency and is celebrating by holding a fanciful dinner party attended by female historical figures, who struggled to break the bonds of societal expectations.  Among them are Isabella Bird, 19th century English author who travelled the world alone, and Dull Gret, the subject of a 16th century painting by Pieter Brueghel the Elder, who, fully armed, leads a mob of women into Hell to fight the Devil. The play goes on to portray the lives of Marlene, who left home to make it in the big city, and her sister Joyce, who stayed home.

Tickets are $20 each and can be reserved by calling the Otterbein University box office at (614) 823-1109 or purchased online at www.otterbein.edu/drama. The box office is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to performances. The box office is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St.

In conjunction with the production, the Department of Theatre and Dance will present Top Girls: Women In Leadership Today at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, in the Campus Center Theatre. This panel discussion will focus on the challenges facing women currently in and working towards positions of leadership in today’s workforce.
