Plan-It Earth Celebrates Earth Week

Plan-It Earth Celebrates Earth Week

By Alli Bates ’16

Sophomore Hannah Bailey is a true leader with a passion for environmental causes. At Otterbein, she is the CardinalCorps Leader of a club for like-minded students, called Plan-It Earth.

“Plan-it Earth is a bi-weekly service program that focuses on sustainability and awareness about environmental issues,” said Bailey.

CardinalCorps Leaders are a group of 18-20 students at Otterbein who coordinate service programs through the Center for Community Engagement (CCE). They receive scholarships for their hard work.

Bailey and Plan-It Earth have several upcoming events scheduled to celebrate Earth Week — the week leading up to Earth Day on Friday, April 22. Earth Week is a week dedicated to spreading awareness about environmental issues and working towards a more sustainable society.

Plan-It Earth will kick off Earth Week with an informational table from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, April 18, in the Campus Center.

“We are handing out information on what it means to be sustainable and how to live sustainably. For this event, we are also partnering with Otterbein University Student Government, who will be handing out reusable bags and water bottles,” said Bailey.

The other event that they have planned is an Earth Day campus clean-up at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 22. They will meet at the CCE and walk around campus to pick up trash.

“The best part about Earth Week is the fact that it is a global event. By participating in Earth Week and Earth Day, we become something larger than our small campus organization and can really make a difference,” said Bailey.
