The class meets one evening per week during fall quarter, then travels to Vienna, Austria, for two weeks at the beginning of December Interterm for the high point of this multidisciplinary course. SYE 473 - Africa
Why is the birthplace of humanity, on the one hand, a continent rich with beauty and resources and, on the other hand, wracked with conflict and disaster? A greater understanding of the challenges faced by African countries will assist students in becoming more informed and better prepared global citizens. In December 2005, participants flew to Kigali, Rwanda and from there traveled into the mountains where the Karisoke Research Centre in the Parc National des Volcans is located. In future years, students may travel to other countries in Africa. To learn more about this trip, view a presentation by student Devon Kuntzman or an article from the Spring 2006 Towers magazine. See SYE Africa's website for more information.

SYE 476- India: Creating Social Change
SYE in India allows students to intensively study global social changes through grassroots, sustainable community development practices- first in the classroom-based discussions and reading, and then through a service learning project in several village sites in the vicinity of Lucknow outside the state of Uttar Pradesh. Students travel with Muskingum College students for two weeks in India. For more information, go to the course's site.
