Established in 2005 through the Center for Community Engagement, the citizen awards recognize exemplary contributions of service to the community. Awardees perform the role of citizen in a commendable manner displaying the values that lie in Otterbein's mission to develop the whole person. Five awards are given each year to students (2), staff (1), faculty (1), and a community partner (1).
The contributions of service express- A high level of social conscience
- Commitment to the welfare of others outside of one's immediate sphere
- The willingness to commit time and energy to enhance the human condition
- The ability to work collectively for social justice
- An understanding of the richness of diversity
- An intention to create broad social or institutional change2006-2007 Citizen Awards
The 2006-2007 Citizen Awards were announced at the Celebration of Service in May. This year's Awardees are:
Lindsey Schramm (student) for her outstanding commitment to community service at Otterbein and devotion to the Center for Community Engagement's mission.
Terry Hermsen (faculty) and Suzanne Kile (community partner) for their collaborative work with the Creative Literacy Alliance to integrate "creative literacy" across the curriculum and in fostering creative vision at Genoa Middle School.
Emily Van Buren for dedicating a year of service to Otterbein and the greater community and for her efforts to broaden understanding of pressing social issues.
Allison Develvis (staff) for dedicating her time and effort to Habitat for Humanity and for supporting the Center for Community Engagement's initiatives across campus.
