Health
An Otterbein CardinalCorps volunteer serves as a buddy with an elderly friend at our local nursing home.
Students in service-learning courses across campus are addressing the health needs of our communities through direct service with a Somalian Clinic, the Columbus AIDS Task Force, and other wellness programs.
Socializing with our Nursing Home Neighbors
More than 50 percent of nursing home residents have no living close relative and 60 percent have no visitors. Project Outreach brings 20 students a week to our neighboring nursing home, Altercare, to help residents take three important steps toward healthier aging, (1) making better food choices, (2) being more physically active, and (3) participating in social and recreational activities. Through bingo games, checkers, exercise, and reading visits, students bring to Altercare, as one resident put it, "faces from heaven!"
Enriching Cottage Life
Since 1911, troubled, abused, and neglected children have found temporary homes at the United Methodist Children's Home. Otterbein students serve the UMCH community residents by providing fun activities in their cottages, poetry workshops, and mentoring experiences.
