Otterbein College's Center for Community Engagement (CCE) offers you a variety of opportunities to serve and engage in the community around you. The CCE offers you the chance to participate in campus volunteerism, service-learning programs, and community-based action research.
Help us build community partnerships and enhance our historical relationships with neighboring communities. Otterbein students, faculty, and staff support community engagement in 5 key areas:

Otterbein celebrates Earth Week with Eco-Friendly Events
The "Diggin' with DeVore" 2009 Spring Community Plunge on Saturday morning highlights a week of activities to improve environmental awareness and local communities. Come out to celebrate Otterbein's 25th year of engaged service and get a free T-shirt.
Other events include fashion and decoration contests, Eco-tours of local service buildings, and presentations and documentaries to increase awareness of environmental concerns and scientific research.

Otterbein Classified as Community-Engaged University
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in Stanford, CA, has classified Otterbein College as a "community-engaged university" in recognition of its "curricular engagement and outreach and partnerships." Only 51 private institutions in the United States were selected for the classification.

Otterbein Sophomore Receives Carter Foundation Grant
Danielle Fabian became the third consecutive Otterbein student to receive the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Foundation Academic Service Entrepreneur Grant for her service project "Granola Girls." Read more about Danielle's project.
Chelsea Merriman Receives National Service Award
Senior Chelsea Merriman was one of five recipients of the 2008 Spirit of LASSIE Award. Her work with the United Methodist Children's Home to create a sustainable community garden exemplifies youth in action. Learn more about Chelsea's work and the award.
Safety Expo Offers Tips to Students
Otterbein celebrated Make-A-Difference Day with a Fall Safety Expo. The expo explored a variety of important safety topics, including fire safety, the danger of strangers, disaster planning, and knife safety. Read more.
CCE Offers Service Opportunity at Homecoming
During Otterbein's Homecoming, Saturday, October 18, the CCE sponsored it s annual Stop-N-Serve booth to benefit a local humane shelter. The Otterbein community friends and families helped build and paint dog houses.
Otterbein Freshman Serve Community During Fall Plunge
Nearly 200 Otterbein students and staff participated in the 16th annual Fall Community Service Plunge, September 13. Students volunteered at 18 various community organizations, including the Girl Scouts of America, Concord Counseling Services, two public libraries, and St. Vincent's Family Center.
