Bachelors Degree Honors Recognition

Latin Honors
The commencement program must go to print before Spring Quarter grades have been received in the Registrar's Office. Due to this time constraint, the published names of students receiving Latin honors and the specific honor levels (Cum/Magna/Summa) will be based upon GPA's achieved through Winter Quarter. Diplomas issued at Commencement, however, will be marked with final information (Spring Quarter grades) included. Thus, there could be upgrades or downgrades in honors levels (a student could, for instance, move from Cum to Magna or vice versa). An upgrade will be read as the student crosses the stage. A downgrade will not be read; instead, what appears in the program will be read. Latin Honors are printed on the permanent transcript record and on the diploma.

3.60 overall GPA for Cum Laude
3.80 overall GPA for Magna Cum Laude
3.95 overall GPA for Summa Cum Laude

Departmental Honors
Undergraduate students who have achieved a 3.70 grade point average for all courses in the major by the end of Winter Quarter will graduate with Departmental Honors. A list of all recipients will be published in the commencement program. Near the end of Spring Quarter, Department Chairpersons will automatically contact all recipients and issue a pin that is to be worn on the left side of the gown at Commencement. Double majors may wear two pins. Pins not picked up from the departments will be available between 10:45 and 11:30 a.m. during the procession line-up near the north doors of Roush Hall (or in the case of rain, in the back of the Clements Center).

Distinction Program Honors

Students who complete a Distinction Project will receive a medallion (in advance of Sunday) from the Chair of the Distinction Program which may be worn with the cap and gown at commencement. In addition, "with Distinction" will be listed on diplomas, transcripts, in the commencement program and announced with the student's name at graduation.
