Introduction to the Air Force including Air Force organization, benefits, military customs and courtesies, dress and appearance, and communication skills.

AIRS 102 FOUNDATIONS OF OFFICERSHIP - 1 hr
Exploration of Air Force officership as a profession, core values and the oath of office.

AIRS 103 AIR FORCE TEAM BUILDING AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS - 1 hr
Practical applications of interpersonal communications and team building skills.

AIRS 201 EVOLUTION OF USAF AIR AND SPACE POWER FROM INCEPTION THROUGH WORLD WAR II - 1 hr
Issues of leadership, technological advances, and air power theory.

AIRS 202 EVOLUTION OF USAF AIR AND SPACE POWER FROM 1940 TO 1970 - 1 hr
The role of U.S. air power from 1947 through the initial Cold War years and the Vietnam War.

AIRS 203 EVOLUTION OF USAF AIR AND SPACE POWER FROM 1970 THROUGH 2025 - 1 hr
The role of air power during the post-Vietnam era through 2025 with emphasis on regional conflicts and growing technological sophistication.

AIRS 301 AIR FORCE LEADERSHIP AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY - 3 hrs
Roles and responsibilities of Air Force officers. Topics include training philosophy, conflict management, problem solving, counseling techniques and oral communications.

AIRS 302 LEADERSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY - 3 hrs
Leadership concepts and case studies, including corrective supervision, team building, motivation and situational leadership. Prereq: AIRS 301 or permission of instructor.

AIRS 303 OFFICER DEVELOPMENT AND PROFESSIONALISM - 3 hrs
Officer as a professional, topics include professional relationships, core values, dynamic followership, and military ethics. Prereq: AIRS 302 or permission of instructor.

AIRS 401 NATIONAL SECURITY AND STRATEGY-MAKING PROCESS - 3 hrs
The roles of the Executive branch, Congress and military in the national security process; exploration of the organization and role of the Air Force. Prereq: AIRS 303 or permission of instructor.

AIRS 402 JOINT MILITARY OPERATIONS AND AREA STUDIES - 3 hrs
A study of U.S. interests in regions around the world. Prereq: AIRS 401 or permission of instructor.

AIRS 403 PREPARATION FOR ACTIVE DUTY - 3 hrs
Preparation for active duty as an Air Force officer. Prereq: AIRS 402 or permission of instructor.


Army Military Science Courses (MILS)

MILS 111 FOUNDATIONS OF OFFICERSHIP - 3 hrs
This course is designed to make your first peer group at college one committed to performing well and enjoying the experience. Increase self-confidence through team study and activities in basic drill, physical fitness, rappelling, leadership reaction course, land navigation, first aid, making presentations and basic marksmanship. Learn fundamental concepts of leadership in a profession in both classroom and outdoor laboratory environments. One hour and a required leadership lab per week plus optional participation in a one-hour session for physical fitness.

MILS 112 BASIC LEADERSHIP - 3 hrs
This course builds on MILS 111. Learn/apply principles of effective leading. Reinforce self-confidence through participation in physically and mentally challenging exercises with upper division Army ROTC students. Develop communication skills to improve individual performance and group interaction. Relate organizational ethical values to the effectiveness of a leader. One hour and a required leadership lab per week plus optional participation in a one-hour session for physical fitness.

MILS 211 INDIVIDUAL LEADERSHIP STUDIES - 4.5 hrs
This course is a survey of U.S. military history from the end of World War I to the present. It defines national security, outlines the current U.S. national security structure, and emphasizes the impact of World War II on the development of national security policies and the etasblishment of today�s world order. Other topics include an overview of military leadership and the principles of leadership. Two hours and a required leadership lab per week plus optional participation in a one-hour session for physical fitness.

MILS 212 LEADERSHIP AND TEAMWORK - 4.5 hrs
This course is a survey of military history from colonial America until the end of World War I. It introduces the development of tactics and strategy in American military history through the use of selected campaigns and battles from the period. Two hours and a required leadership lab per week plus an optional participation in a one-hour session for physical fitness.

MILS 311 LEADERSHIP AND PROBLEM SOLVING - 4.5 hrs
This course is designed in a series of practical opportunities to lead small groups, receive personal assessments and encouragement, and lead again in situations of increasing complexity. Uses small unit tactics and opportunities to plan and conduct training for basic course students both to develop such skills and as vehicles for practicing leading. Three hours and a required leadership lab plus three required one-hour sessions for physical fitness. Prereq: MILS 111/112/211/212 or credit for Army ROTC Leaders Training Course.

MILS 312 LEADERSHIP AND ETHICS - 4.5 hrs
This course is designed to continue the methodology of MILS 311. Analyze tasks; prepare written or oral orders for team members to accomplish tasks. Delegate tasks and supervise. Plan for and adapt to the unexpected in organization under stress. Examine and apply lessons from leadership case studies. Examine importance of ethical decision making in setting a positive environment that enhances team performance. Three hours and a required leadership lab per week plus three required one-hour sessions for physical fitness. Prereq: MILS 111/112/ 211/212/311 or credit for Army ROTC Leaders Training Course.

MILS 411 LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT - 4.5 hrs
Plan, conduct and evaluate activities of the ROTC cadet organization. Articulate goals and put plans into action to attain them. Assess organizational cohesion and develop strategies to improve it. Develop confidence in skills to lead people and manage resources. Learn/apply various Army policies and programs in this effort. Three hours and a required leadership lab per week plus three required one-hour sessions for physical fitness. Prereq: MILS 311/312.

MILS 412 OFFICERSHIP - 4.5 hrs
This course continues the methodology from MILS 411. Identify and resolve ethical dilemmas. Refine counseling and motivating techniques. Examine aspects of tradition and military law as it relates to leading as an officer in the Army. Prepare for a future as a successful Army lieutenant. Two hours and a required leadership lab per week plus three one-hour sessions for physical fitness. Prereq: MILS 311/312/411.
