Degree Completion Program for
Associate of Applied Science in
Early Childhood Development
The CSCC/OC Early Childhood Program is designed for individuals who
have completed the State Department of Education approved program for
the Provisional Pre-Kindergarten Associate Certificate at Columbus State
and wish to obtain Provisional Early Childhood licensure. This program
is designed to attract non-traditional students who may wish to pursue
their baccalaureate degrees on a part-time basis. Because of the
serious shortage of minority teachers in our schools, Otterbein is particularly
interested in recruiting minority candidates.
By following this guide for completion of the Associate of Applied
Science in Early Childhood Development at Columbus State,
students will satisfy Columbus State Core Requirements and about one-half
of the Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.) in Early Childhood
Development at Otterbein. At the end of the program, students
obtain a provisional teaching licensure which would allow them to work
in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, or grades 1-3. Their area of concentration
(30 quarter hours in the social sciences) is Sociology/Psychology.
The program consists of more than the 180 quarter hours of coursework
generally required for a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S. in Ed.)
Degree. Only 90 quarter hours of transfer credit from
Columbus State can be applied toward the Otterbein degree. A minimum
of 102 quarter hours will be taken at Otterbein. Columbus State
students must earn a "C" or higher grade in courses for transfer
credit. The information below is based on the A.A.S. program outlined
in the Columbus State Catalog. Otterbein
College accepts the degree as published in the CSCC catalog, with substitutions,
waivers or any deviation from CSCC resulting in possible additional course
work being necessary at Otterbein.
