Craig Sutherland '89

Craig SutherlandHome: Lewis Center, OH

Hometown: Akron, Ohio

Occupation: President of Money Concepts Columbus. We specialize in wealth management and financial planning.

Major at Otterbein: Marketing/Finance

What have you been doing since your graduation from Otterbein?
Although I have been in central Ohio since graduation, my wife Anita and I (she is a graduate of Denison University) settled in Lewis Center five years ago. We have two daughters (Grace - age 3, and Ella - 8 months.) I have been very active in building a wealth management practice that offers a client experience second to none in the industry.

I continued to stay in central Ohio and build a clientele that covers seven states. I "cut my teeth" at Shearson Lehman Brothers which eventually merged with Smith Barney. During my tenure, I looked for an opportunity to own my own business, yet, stay in the investment field. In April of 1994 I became a franchise owner of Money Concepts. Our franchise has consistently been ranked in the top 10 nationally, and I have been named president of the year and financial planner of the year in Ohio for the last six years consecutively.

Sutherland familyWhat interest and/or hobbies do you have? I am involved in various committees at Powell United Methodist Church. I founded the Money Concepts Classic which is a charity golf event for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In the past 13 years of the tournament we have raised close to $200,000 for the hospital through this event. I guest speak at various schools and at business conferences nationally and internationally. However, the best hobby I have is spending quality family time with my wife and beautiful daughters.

What is a special Otterbein memory? I enjoyed having the opportunity to play football with my brother who graduated one year ahead of me. Being able to see my family in the stands enjoying both of their sons for multiple years was a joy and something we still talk about today.
