| Home:I am living in Westerville, OH again, however, much farther north in the hinterlands of Highland Lakes. Development north of the college is amazing; it was all farm land when we were roaming the Otterbein campus.

Occupation & Career Capsule:
I just reached my 28th year of public service, including several years at one agency for the State of Ohio, and more than twenty years at The Ohio State University. I’ve held several positions at Ohio State, starting as a graduate assistant advisor, eventually completing my doctoral program in Sociology and Business. I spent time in the Office of Continuing Education, and served as President of the state-wide professional association for continuing educators. I am currently working in the Career Services Office for Ohio State’s Colleges of the Arts and Sciences. Completing a double major in Sociology and Psychology at Otterbein provided me with a wonderful background for academic advising, developing new programs, outreach efforts to our community, as well as providing students with a wider, more diverse look at their world.
What unique set of skills and professional values did you obtain from your Otterbein education?
I believe Otterbein provides a true love of learning, and is a catalyst for personal growth. Otterbein gave me a greater knowledge and understanding of our world, as well as the belief that we must all positively contribute to the greater good. I also realize that many people at Otterbein contributed to my education, experience, and learning, and I must “pay ahead” as a tribute to them. Advising students at Ohio State, as well as my volunteer activities with Otterbein’s Sociology Department, are just small steps in my “paying ahead” to help others.
What interests and/or hobbies do you have?
I have been spending time in volunteer activities for non-profit organizations in central Ohio, focusing on the needs of older citizens. I recently served as a Board member of one local agency and will be providing assistance to the Delaware County (OH) Council for Older Adults. Having taken care of my own family members, I have first-hand knowledge of the concerns and needs of caregivers. I hope that I can provide assistance to others regarding the extraordinary issues involved in caring for elderly and ailing family members.
What is a special Otterbein memory?
There are so many memories it is hard to pinpoint only one. Having just celebrated my 30th class reunion, I enjoyed seeing classmates again, looking through T&C’s, reminiscing over time spent on special programs (such as Merrill-Palmer), and comparing “tall tales”. We again realized the positive impact Otterbein played in our lives. We formed friendships that have lasted for nearly three decades and will continue on for many more. That is Otterbein - the realization that we are members of a very special family.
