Please forward each issue of the e-newsletter to your fellow Otterbein alumni and friends. You tell two friends, and they'll tell two friends, and so on, and so on...

    Help us name this e-newsletter!
We have decided that you, the alumni, deserve a better name for this e-newsletter. We tried to compose something clever, and then it dawned on us that we have the world's smartest alumni! Let's see what you can create.

Between now and August 1 we will gather suggestions from you for a new e-newsletter name. Then the Alumni Council will vote on their favorite entry. The winning entry will be announced in the September e-newsletter and....(drum roll)...the alumnus/a selected will win a really great prize! So, you have until August 1 to create a clever name and we have until August 1 to come up with a really great prize!

As our mothers used to say, "Put on your thinking caps!"

    Otterbein Reverberations Exhibit
Sharing photos of grandchildren and sharing fond memories of days at Otterbein - - these are the usual activities during a 50th class reunion. But when the Class of 1956 celebrates their golden reunion during Alumni Weekend, they will also be sharing their creative talents and interests. An exhibition of work from the Class of '56 titled Otterbein Reverberations will be displayed in the Courtright Memorial Library.

"Over twenty members of the class plus two former faculty and staff from the era are featuring 100 creative pieces. We anticipate this will become an Otterbein tradition," said Sonya Evans, member of the Class of '56 Creative Talents Planning Committee. "This Alumni Weekend will touch not just alumni members, but current Otterbein students. The golden reunion will show that gaining knowledge never stops after graduation."

In addition to the exhibit, the Class of '56 will dedicate "Sarah's Corner," the new area in the library reserved for children. Over $6,000 has been received by the College for the "Sarah's Corner" fund, which was established by the 1956 Reunion Planning Committee to honor recently deceased classmate Sarah Rose Gorsuch. The opening ceremony for the exhibition and dedication for "Sarah's Corner" will be June 9 at 11:00 a.m.

    Net Nights & Career Conversations...
Easing the transition from college to the "Real World"

Graduation from college can be an exciting and daunting experience. It is a time of change. A time for trying your wings. A time to say goodbye to old friends. The Office of Alumni Relations is preparing a series of events this summer to ease the transition for our newest alumni from life in the "quiet, peaceful village" to life in the "real world."

Net Nights will provide social networking opportunities in a relaxed atmosphere. The first Net Night is on July 19 at Bar Louie's in Columbus' Easton Station. Cincinnati will be the site of Net Night on September 13 at the East End Cafe', owned by Otterbein alumnus Jeff Stewart '01. Columbus alumni can gather together on September 15 at The Lodge Bar.

Career Conversations events provide “real world” information on various careers and career development issues. Dr. Susan Fagan, Director of Otterbein's MBA Program, will present her popular workshop "Composing Your Life" on July 13 in Roush Hall. The Career Development Center will collaborate with the Office of Alumni Relations to present " Government & Non-profit Careers: Get the Inside Scoop" on July 20 at 6:00 p.m. in Roush Hall.

Although Net Nights and Career Conversation events are being developed primarily to help younger alumni transition from college, all alumni are welcome to attend.

We need you to make these events a success!
If you know of a fun gathering place for future Net Nights in Ohio or in your region, please contact the Alumni Relations office.

We are currently seeking alumni working in a government position (state or federal) and alumni working in the non-profit sector who would be willing to serve as a panelist at the Career Conversation event on July 20.  If you are interested in being a panelist, or would like to recommend someone, please call the Alumni Relations Office at 823-1650.

    YOU can make a difference!
A message from Jennifer Westbrook '01, Director of Annual Giving

Otterbein students depend on your generous support to the Annual Fund. Tuition covers only 72% of each student's total education cost. We need, and count on, the support of alumni to help make up the other 28%! Gifts to the Annual Fund help with ongoing expenses to supplement tuition dollars with scholarship awards, faculty development, library book purchases and facilities and equipment upgrades.

Annual Fund gifts helped you during your Otterbein years; now is a good time to consider giving back. You can contribute to the Annual Fund by clicking on Make a Gift Online or by calling 614-823-1400. Thank you for your support!

    Otterbein Connections
The Office of Alumni Relations is working diligently to provide opportunities aimed at keeping your Otterbein connection alive. Over the next few months we will highlight the numerous opportunities available to you via alumni-based organizations. If you see something that piques your interest, submit a Get Involved form online. It's that easy!

Featured organization - Otterbein Broadcasting Network (OBN)
The Otterbein Broadcasting Network was founded in 2004 to help alumni who participated in the broadcasting programs stay connected with each other, the college and current students.  Through the Network, alumni have the opportunity to create contacts with other broadcasting professionals, and to be a mentor for current students.  The Network also plans social events for its members.

There are over 100 active members involved with the Network, all of whom have participated in WOBN or WOCC during their college years.  But not all members are broadcasting majors or minors.  Only half of the members are currently involved in the broadcasting/mass media industry.  Other members are involved in marketing, public relations, non-profit institutions, special events, even insurance and real estate, as well as other careers.

In 2005 the Network awarded the first Dr. Grissinger Excellence Award to Mark Buckingham ’96.  The Award, named for former professor and friend of the college, Dr. James Grissinger, recognizes the efforts of an outstanding alumnus/a in the broadcasting arena.

To get involved in the Broadcasting Network, simply submit a Get Involved form.
