Recap

Second-seeded Marietta scored three times in the first inning and coasted to an 11-1 win over third-seeded Heidelberg (26-15) in the opening round of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament in Westerville.

Right-handed pitcher Mike Eisenberg, a junior from Coral Gables, Fla. (Bullis High School), went eight innings for the Pioneers, scattering four hits and striking out 10.

The Pioneers (33-8) out-hit the Student Princes 14-4 and held a 5-0 advantage until Heidelberg catcher Tyler Tocco, a junior from Dublin (Coffman), belted a fifth-inning solo home run to left-center field.

The Pioneers responded with a pair of runs in the sixth, and added four more in the seventh to seal the victory.  Pioneer first baseman Jarrod Klausman, a senior from Altoona, Pa., finished the day with three hits, including an RBI triple in the seventh.

With the victory, Marietta advances to the winner’s bracket where they will face either top-seed and host Otterbein, or fourth-seeded Mount Union, 9:30 a.m., Friday.
