Cards Sit Sixth After Round Two of the NCAA Championships
LINCOLN, NEB.--After trailing the defending
national champ Monday by 10
and 12 strokes, respectively, Nebraska
Wesleyan University and the
University of Redlands made their charge
on Tuesday at the NCAA Division III
Men's Golf Championships being played at
Firethorn Golf Club.
Seniors
Nick Obie (67) and Trevor Young (68) led Redlands to the best score
of the day at 286 and moved the Bulldogs
into second place on the team
leader board, a position where they have
finished each of the last two
years. Obie is currently second
individually at 144.
The
host Prairie Wolves shot 289 to draw within three strokes of Guilford,
the defending national champions, who
still cling to a two-shot lead heading
into Wednesday's third round. NWU had
three golfers at 72 or better on
Tuesday: Tyler Lawson (70), Aaron
Stockton (71) and Travis Davis (72).
Both
teams started hot on Tuesday. In fact, the Bulldogs were -12 early in
the second round, but faded on their
final five holes putting Guilford back
in the lead. All three will start early
on Wednesday as the teams will tee
off together starting at 7:30 a.m.
(CST).
At
296, Guilford also shot better than their opening round 299, but the
Quakers still saw their lead shrink on
Tuesday. Methodist College shot 300
and fell from second to fifth, while
Oglethorpe University shot 293 and
dropped one spot to fourth. Just eight
strokes separate the top five teams.
