Austintown, OH- Otterbein will host the 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday-Saturday, March 7-8, at the Clements Recreation Center. Friday’s competition will begin at 1:30p.m., while Saturday’s competition will begin at 10a.m. All ten OAC schools will vie for the league title.

At the 2007 OAC Championship, Mount Union men captured their 31st overall title, while the Otterbein women claimed their third title since 2003.

The Purple Raiders will return only one individual champion from a year ago, senior Dan Gund (Madison), who won the shot put title (16.13m).

The Cardinals will return three of their five individual champions from a year ago, juniors Stacey Schall (Lancaster/Bloom Carroll), Anna Yonkers (Lancaster/Bloom Carroll) and Allyson Tobin (Lancaster/Fisher Catholic).  Schall captured the 55-meter hurdles (8.50), Yonkers won the 500-meter run (1:17.69) and Tobin took home the shot put title (12.78).

Heidelberg will return junior Scott Lasch (Huron), who was named the 2007 OAC Most Outstanding Distance Runner for his is second place finish in the one-mile run (4:22.70) and his first place finish in the 1,000-meter run (2:32.65) a year ago.

The Berg will also return sophomore Jamie Depinte (New Riegel), who was tabbed the 2007 OAC Most Outstanding Female Sprinter. Depinte won the 400-meter dash (59.06) and placed second in the 300-meter dash (41.73) and was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that earned All-OAC honors a year ago.

Baldwin-Wallace junior Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood), the 2007 Julie Zajac Most Outstanding  Distance Athlete, will also be returning. Scullion won the 800-meter (2:19.44), and the one-mile run in a OAC record time of 5:07.76, and place second in the 5000-meter (18:27.56)

The top three placewinners in each individual event and the top three relay teams in each event earn All-OAC honors.
