Otterbein College Theatre continues its 2007-08 season with The Caucasian Chalk Circle, directed by Chris Kirk. The production will run Jan. 31-Feb. 3 and Feb. 7-9 in the Fritsche Theatre in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville.
The Caucasian Chalk Circle is a parable inspired by the Chinese play Chalk Circle. Written at the close of World War II, the story is set in the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia, and retells the tale of King Solomon and a child claimed by two mothers. A chalk circle is metaphorically drawn around a society misdirected by its priorities. Brecht's statements about class are cloaked in the innocence of a fable that whispers insistently to the audience.
This production will mark the Otterbein debut of faculty costume designer Rebecca White. Originally from Minnesota, Rebecca has worked with The Penumbra Theatre and Park Square Theatre in St. Paul and Theatre l'Homme Dieu in Alexandria. Rebecca's work has also been seen at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre and the Santa Fe Opera. Rebecca earned her master's degree from the University of Minnesota and her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse.
Tickets are $15 each and can be reserved by calling the Otterbein College box office at (614) 823-1109. The box office is open 1:00-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to performances. The box office is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville.
