OTTERBEIN COLLEGE THEATRE PRESENTS DANCE 2008 - GOTTA DANCE

The Otterbein College Department of Theatre & Dance will present an evening of classic movie favorites including dances from musicals such as George M, The Rocky Horror Show, Singin' In the Rain, and Saturday Night Fever with their 2008 dance concert, Gotta Dance!

Featuring four faculty and two student choreographers, the concert will include dances of many styles including ballet, jazz, tap, modern and hip-hop. 33 student dancers performing 14 Movie Musical favorites

Artistic Director Stella Hiatt Kane has been a member of the Otterbein faculty since 1989 and coordinator of dance since 1996. She is a member of the BalletMet Academy faculty and was the founding Artistic Director of JazzMet. Kane has been a member of the national companies of Sugar and Bob Fosse's Dancin' and a member of the national and international companies of The American Dance Machine. She has made television appearances in productions such as PBS' "Dance In America" and "The Ann Reinking Special" with Ann Reinking, Chita Rivera and Ben Vereen. Kane has taught for New York's American Dance Machine/Harkness House and the Actors' and Directors' Lab. She has given master classes at The Ohio State University, New York University and has been a master teacher in residence at the Northern Ballet Theatre in Leeds, England. Kane was a contributing choreographer in the 2005-06 BalletMet season premier of "Jazz Moves" and the 2007-08 premier of "Thirty x Thirty."

Student Choreographer Sarah Dove is a junior music and business major with a minor in dance. She grew up in Gahanna, where she first discovered her love of dance at the Judy Dollenmayer Studio of Dance. Gotta Dance! marks Dove's third main stage performance at Otterbein, in which she is thrilled to have been chosen as a student choreographer as well as a company member. She has previously been in the 2007 Dance Concert, Encore!, and last year's production of Hello, Dolly! Dove will be choreographing "Yankee Doodle" from the movie musical, George M. Dove aspires to pursue a professional career in dance, focusing on choreography, as well as continuing the study of voice.

Student Choreographer Cesar Villavicencio is a junior musical theatre major with a dance concentration. A native of Miami, Florida, he attended the prestigious New World School of the Arts High School, training in the Vocal and Musical Theatre Departments. He has been a part of The Frenchwoods Festival, Perry-Mansfield, and with The Shakespeare Globe training program. Hewas last seen as Hot Blades Harry in Urinetown, and performed in the ensembles of Otterbein's productions of Hello, Dolly! and the 2007 Dance Concert, Encore! Villavicencio will perform in Fiddler on the Roof for the Utah Shakespeare Festival company this summer. He plans to move to New York and pursue a career in theatre after graduation. Villavicencio will choreograph "The West Side Story Prologue."

Tickets are $15 each and can be reserved by calling the Otterbein College box office at (614) 823-1109. The box office is open 1:00-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to performances. The box office is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville.

The opening night performance on Thursday, March 6, begins at 7:30 p.m. and is followed by a reception. The Sunday matinee on March 9 begins at 2 p.m. All other performances begin at 8 p.m.
