Otterbein College will host its first Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) show at the new Center for Equine Studies at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Center is located at 600 N. Spring Rd. in Westerville. Admission and parking are free and concessions will be available during the event. Parking is available at the Center, with overflow at Heritage Middle School or Robert Frost Elementary School.
Otterbein will have two teams of four riders each competing at the show. Riders at IDA shows earn points as individuals and as teams to qualify them for the national championship held in the spring. Otterbein boasted two national champions at the 2009 championship. The College’s team is ranked fifth in the nation.
Other colleges attending the event include Bethany College, Miami University, University of Findlay, College of Wooster and University of Kentucky.
A tour will be open to the public at 11 a.m. beginning in the reception area as part of the celebration of Otterbein’s Homecoming. Otterbein issued long-term tax-exempt bonds in 2008 to finance the construction of the Center. Interested investors to assist with the project are still being sought. Gifts and naming opportunities can be explored through the Office of Institutional Advancement by visiting http://www.otterbein.edu/giving/index.asp. An official dedication ceremony will be held in Spring 2010.
