Otterbein College was recognized in the 2008-2009 Guide to Service-Learning Colleges & Universities.
Otterbein's profile in the guide highlights its service-learning opportunities and achievements and will attract college-bound students interested in colleges dedicated to service-learning programs.
The Guide to Service-Learning Colleges and Universities is a resource for college-bound students wanting to make a difference in their communities through service while earning college credit. The guide offers insight to students on what service-learning is, how they can get involved and which colleges excel at service-learning.
Otterbein was chosen for the guide because it demonstrates and maintains a valid service-learning program that corresponds with specific criteria. For example, Otterbein's service-learning opportunities show a clear connection between its academic learning objectives and the community-based activities it completes. Plus it has a consistent level of student participation on campus. Other criteria involve the logistical issues of the program and how it is managed, as well as the funding for the program.
The guide will help attract students interested in going to a college dedicated to service learning and social change, said Melissa Gilbert, Director for the Center of Community Engagement at Otterbein College.
"We are very fortunate to be listed in the guide. Our real hope is that it will recruit students committed to service," Gilbert said.
Otterbein was selected for the guide by Student Horizons staff and members of its National Advisory Board. Student Horizons is a digital services and media company that helps students find colleges that complement their personalities and ambitions.
