DINOTOPIA AUTHOR JAMES GURNEY TO SPEAK AT OTTERBEIN
James Gurney, author and illustrator of the
Dinotopia series will be visiting Otterbein for a talk titled "
Dinotopia: Behind the Scenes" at 6 p.m. this Sunday evening, April 5, in room 114 of Roush Hall, 27 S. Grove St., Westerville. Following his talk, there will be a book signing. The talk is free and open the public and is appropriate for a general audience.
Dinotopia began as a series of art prints and illustrated books by James Gurney about a lost island shared by human and dinosaurs. Gurney has written and illustrated four volumes in the

James Gurney is the best-selling author and illustrator of the
Dinotopia book series and creator of more than seventy illustrated book covers. He has worked on assignment as a National Geographic artist and has illustrated 17 United States postage stamps. An accomplished, award-winning artist, Gurney is the recipient of many prestigious honors, including seven Chesley Awards from the Association of Fantasy Artists, two Hugo Awards from the World Science Fiction Convention, and Best of Show from the Art Director's Club. Gurney's art currently appears in museum exhibitions around the world.
Gurney earned his bachelor's degree in archaeology in 1979 with Phi Beta Kappa honors at the University of California at Berkeley. He studied painting at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where he met his wife-to-be Jeanette, also an artist. In 1984 they moved to the Hudson Valley of New York State, where they live with two sons and a blue parakeet-a living descendant of dinosaurs. Learn more about James Gurney at
