Otterbein Student String Quartets to Perform
The Otterbein College Department of Music will present a concert of chamber music performed by student string quartets at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the Battelle Fine Arts Center’s Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Otterbein College Opera Theatre to Perform an Evening of One-Act Operas
Otterbein College Opera Theatre will present an evening of One-Act Operas at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, in the Battelle Fine Arts Center’s Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Park St., Westerville. The performance is free and open to the public. Included on the program will be “A Game of Chance” by Seymour Barab and “I Wish, I Wish, I Wish” by Julie and Eugene Mandel.
“A Game of Chance” tells the story of three young ladies who meet in the park every day with their knitting. They are all unhappy with their lives, but are given the chance to each be granted her fondest desire. But each finds that, once acquired, those desires are not satisfying.
“I Wish, I Wish, I Wish” is based on a Japanese folk tale of a couple in an arranged marriage. The dutiful wife dreams of marrying a strong and courageous samurai. When she finds the lost butterfly of the empress, he grants her three wishes. But does the wife want the reality of a new husband, or is the husband she has the one she wants?
The sophomore acting class will perform two scenes from “Rabbit Hole,” a dramatic Pulitzer Prize-winning plat by David Lindsay-Abaire. The play focuses on a couple trying to cope with the death of their only child, a four-year-old, in an auto accident. For more information, call 614-823-1508.
Otterbein College Student Ensemble “The Anticipations” to Perform
The Otterbein College Department of Music will present a concert featuring The Anticipations, a student pop/rock ensemble, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Espresso Yourself Music Café, 50 W. Otterbein String Orchestra to Join Forces with the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra
The Otterbein College String Orchestra will perform with the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville. The program will feature Bach’s Concerto for Harpsichord in d minor, BWV 1052 and music by Joan Trimble and Ellen Taafe Zwillich. The performance is free and open to the public. Otterbein College Percussion Ensemble to Perform
The Otterbein Percussion Ensemble will perform at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Battelle Fine Arts Center’s Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Park St., Westerville. The performance will feature a revival of the exciting Gordon Peters percussion classic, The Swords of Moda-Ling; Paul Goldstaub’s Six Slick Stix Click Licks; fugue for fun for 3 snare drums (played on 6 snare drums); Yo Goto’s Invisibles Pass By; Bret William Dietz’s cranktool; and Alex Orfaly’s Old Pueblo Rag for marimba band. Youth Philharmonic Of Central Ohio Presents Fall Concert
The Youth Philharmonic of Central Ohio will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, in Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville. In cooperation with the Department of Music at Otterbein College, the performance is free and open to the public.
Youth Philharmonic is an independent youth orchestra that combines the talents of young musicians from throughout the Central Ohio region, presenting two concerts each year for 10 seasons. This fall, the orchestra has held rehearsals at Otterbein College, providing new educational opportunities to receive instruction from faculty members and to work with students from the Department of Music at Otterbein.
The Fall Concert program will feature the “Impresario” Overture by Mozart and the “Andante cantabile” by Tchaikovsky. Two movements of Symphony 104 by Franz Joseph Haydn will also be presented. For more information call 614-823-1508.
