UPCOMING MUSIC PERFORMANCES AT OTTERBEIN COLLEGE

Soprano Jennifer Whitehead to Perform Faculty Recital

The Otterbein College Department of Music will present a faculty recital by soprano Jennifer Whitehead of Westerville (43081) at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at the Battelle Fine Arts Center’s Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Park St., Westerville. The performance is free and open to the public.

The program, entitled “Who Really Wears the Pants in Opera?” will feature performances of opera arias and duets. Local radio personality Christopher Purdy will serve as emcee, and Whitehead will be joined on the program by mezzo-soprano Carolyn Redman. For more information, call 614-823-1508.

Pianist Yung-jen Chen to Perform Faculty Recital

The Otterbein College Department of Music will present a faculty recital by pianist Yung-jen Chen of Columbus (43235) at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Battelle Fine Arts Center’s Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Park St., Westerville. The performance is free and open to the public.

The program celebrates Mendelssohn’s 200th birthday with a performance of his Variations Sérieuses Op.54. Chen also dedicates this performance to the unfortunate victims who have suffered in Typhooon Morakot this summer in Taiwan. Other programs include Mozart’s Sonata in D K.311 and Berg’s Sonata Op.1. Bassist Jim Bates to Perform Faculty Recital

The Otterbein College Department of Music will present a faculty recital by Columbus (43205) resident Jim Bates, double bass, at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Battelle Fine Arts Center’s Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Park St., Westerville. The performance is free and open to the public.

The program, entitled “Contrabass Consciousness,” will explore various states of awareness through music mostly for the double bass. Daron Larson will guide the audience in mindful mediation during the program. Also on the program is Terry Riley’s In C. For more information, call 614-823-1508.

Flutist Kimberlee Goodman to Perform Faculty Recital

The Otterbein College Department of Music will present a faculty recital by flutist Kimberlee Goodman of Columbus (43220) at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, at the Battelle Fine Arts Center’s Riley Auditorium, 170 W. Park St., Westerville. The performance is free and open to the public.

The program will be comprised of French music and flute standards. The recital will feature J.S. Bach’s E Major Sonata for Flute and Piano; Claude Debussy’s Syrinx, for solo flute; Epitaphe de Jean Harlow by Charles Koechlin for flute, alto saxophone and piano; Fantasie for flute and piano by Gabriel Fauré; and Sonata for Flute and Piano by living composer Robert Muczynski.

Pianist Michael Lester will perform as well as Otterbein saxophone instructor Jay Miglia.
