OTTERBEIN COLLEGE JOINS GLOBAL EFFORT WITH BENEFIT PRODUCTION OF
THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES

Otterbein College is participating in V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls, with a benefit production of Eve Ensler's award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 in the Campus Center Pit Theatre, 100 W. Home St., Westerville. Admission is $5 for students and $7 for the general public. All proceeds will be donated to the Turning Point Domestic Violence Shelters of Ohio.

The play is presented by the Otterbein Women's Studies Program and features the acting and support of Otterbein students, faculty and staff; student organizer Jamie Wilson, who is a senior life science major and women's studies minor from Centennial, Colorado; and director Kathlene Boone, a junior double-majoring in theatre and English from Westerville, Ohio.

The V-Day movement is growing at a rapid pace throughout the world, in 120 countries from Europe to Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, and all of North America. V-Day, a non-profit corporation, distributes funds to grassroots, national and international organizations and programs that work to stop violence against women and girls. In 2001, V-Day was named one of Worth Magazine's "100 Best Charities" and in 2006 one of Marie Claire Magazine's Top Ten Charities. In ten years, the V-Day movement has raised over $60 million. The Otterbein Women's Studies Program promotes interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of the history, contributions, issues and conditions affecting women in society and gender as a system. Courses in the program explore the nature and effects of gender in various national and global contexts and connect it to other important identity categories including race, class, and sexuality. In doing so, the minor helps students develop critical thinking and interaction skills and enhance their knowledge of issues facing diverse societies today.
