Common Book Program

Mary B. Thomas, Class of 1928, believed in the power of reading and shared experience. Therefore, she gave a monetary gift to the college to create and continue our Common Book Program. This has become the shared reading program for all incoming students. Now in the 15th year, this is a tradition of the Otterbein experience and will introduce you to your academic journey of college.

You will receive this year's Common Book at your summer orientation session or through the mail if you are attending the September orientation. With the book, you will receive handouts about the book and many support documents. There will be a writing assignment that is due when you meet with your Integrative Studies class on Friday, September 12. If you are not enrolled in a 100 level INST class, you will still meet and submit your paper.

Additionally, the author will visit the campus during the fall and you will have the opportunity to meet and discuss the book with him/her both informally through your classes, but also at an all-campus convocation.

Please also visit the Common Book website.
