Broadcasting
This program of study qualifies students to seek careers in electronic
media, radio-television broadcasting, and/or non-broadcast video or to
apply for graduate study in mass communication, electronic media and radio-television
broadcasting.
All class descriptions are available on the Registrar's
site. Choose "Course Descriptions" from the menu.
The following are the requirements in the Core Curriculum for a B.A.
degree with a major in Broadcasting (at least 180 total hours required
for the degree):
- Integrative Studies - 50 hours
- Foreign Language - 10 hours
- Mathematics - 5 hours
- Physical Education - 3 hours
- Senior Year Experience - hours depend upon course selected
Requirements in the major (58 hours or equivalent):
• COMM 100 - 5 hours
• COMM 200 - 5 hours
• COMM 305 - 5 hours
• COMM 498 - 2 hours
• COMM 499 - 3 hours
• MCOM 140 – 1 hr
• MCOM 141 -1 hr
• MCOM 450 – 5 hrs
• JOUR 160 - 5 hrs.
Students must choose one of the following concentrations available
in the major:
1. Media Production concentration
• MCOM 110 - 5 hours
• MCOM 120 - 5 hours
• MCOM 261 or JOUR 260 – 5 hrs.
• MCOM 365 or 410 – 5 hrs.
• One course from MCOM 341-347 – 1 hr.
• Elective from among ART 151, COMM 335, JOUR 175, and MCOM 130/261/320/360/365/391/410
– 5 hrs.
2. Media Studies concentration
• JOUR 140- 1 hr
• MCOM 110 or 120 – 5 hrs
• MCOM 265 – 5 hrs
• MCOM 365 – 5 hrs
• MCOM 410 – 5 hrs
• Elective from among MCOM 110/120/261/320/360/391/490, JOUR 260/360,
COMM 215/335, and BADM 300/310 – 5 hrs.
