Margaret Colvin is an assistant professor of French and Italian in the Foreign Languages Department. After receiving her Ph.D. in French and Francophone Studies from the University of Connecticut in 2004, she was a full-time faculty member at Ball State University in the Department of Modern Languages and Classics from 2004 to 2006. In the spring of 2007 she was a lector of French at Yale University. Her publications include a monograph entitled Baroque Fictions: Revisioning the Classical in Marguerite Yourcenar (Rodopi, 2005). She has published two articles on the francophone West African author Ahmadou Kourouma and has published numerous French-to-English translations. She has recently developed an interest in Québecois and francophone Acadian literature of the Canadian Maritime Provinces and is pursuing research in those areas. Prior to obtaining her Ph.D. Dr. Colvin had a broad and varied career working abroad and in Washington, D.C., both in the U.S. government and the private sector, including the U.S. Department of State, Radio Free Europe, and Mary Kay Cosmetics of Germany, GmbH. She has lived, worked, and studied in France (two years), Italy (three years), Germany (12 years) and Canada (two years). As a child she lived with her family in Morocco for three years. Her personal interests include reading, traveling, cooking, kayaking and bicycling.
