Legal Studies Minor Curriculum

While Political Science is the most popular major associated with the Legal Studies minor, all majors are welcome to pursue opportunities in law. The minor is coordinated by the History and Political Science Department, and it is highly recommended that students interested in the minor contact Legal Studies Advisor Dr. Debora Halbert as early as possible.

Students in the Legal Studies minor are required to complete classes in American National Government (PSC 100), Judicial Process (PSC 225), Argumentation and Advocacy (COMM 360), and Constitutional and Civil Liberties (PSC 420). Students should note that prerequisites are required for some courses. Along with the prescribed course load, it is also encouraged for those students interested in law to join the Otterbein College Forensics Team.

In addition, students must complete the following two requirements:

Legal Thought and Institutions (choose one of the following electives):

PSC 370Environmental Law and Politics
PSC 440American Political and Legal Thought
PSC 410International Law and Institutions
PHIL 270Symbolic Logic

Law and Society (choose one of the following electives):

BADM 350Business Law
SOCL 220Sociology of Deviance
SOCL 310Criminology
MCOM 410Media Ethics and Regulations
