Department Activities
Juried Student Art Exhibition
Each year the Art Department sponsors the juried student art exhibition. Juried by an art professional from outside Otterbein College, the exhibition provides all art students with an exhibition opportunity. The presentation of artwork for exhibition is discussed and demonstrated in special workshops prior to the exhibition. The juror selects work to be shown and exceptional pieces to receive awards including College Purchase Awards.
Senior Exhibitions
Students install their artwork in two and three person exhibitions and also present gallery talks during their exhibitions. See the schedule for the 2008 Spring Quarter Senior Exhibitions here.
Student Art Organization
The Student Art Organization selects and plans student-generated activities such as trips to galleries and museums and student art sales.
Student Leadership Opportunities
In 1969, Otterbein College became one of the first institutions of higher education in the country to include student participation at all levels of college governance. Students are elected to the College's Board of Trustees, the College Senate, and are voting members on College committees.
In the Art Department, student art majors are elected each year to represent students' perspective at Art Department meetings. Additionally, the Art Department elects students as representatives to the Division of Fine Arts and to the College Senate. Students elect their representatives at the beginning of each academic year.
