Drawing I introduces a variety of techniques and materials to assist students with description, conceptualization, and self-expression. Students learn about creative problem solving through presentations by visiting artists and sketchbook assignments that encourage alternative approaches. Studio assignments build observational skills while developing a heightened awareness of compositional factors. The functions of drawing throughout the history of art are examined and contemporary issues in drawing are also emphasized.
