Majors and Minors

Otterbein offers a B.A. degree with a major in art and concentrations in ceramics, computer art, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and visual communication.

Minors in Studio Art, Art History and Arts Administration are also offered.

With careful advising and academic planning, many Art Majors have also completed a second major. Art has been combined in double majors with disciplines such as English, Communications, and Philosophy.

Arts Administration Minor
The Arts Administration minor provides an opportunity to explore career opportunities with arts organizations. Arts administrators manage museums, arts councils, theatres, and other arts organizations. The Arts Administration courses and a series of business courses provide the structure for the minor and arts administrators from Columbus teach some courses. Students may supplement the minor by enrolling in internships that provide real-world experiences in this exciting field.

Art Education Licensure
Art Education students may complete the coursework required for K-12 teacher licensure. Art Educators at Otterbein meet Art Major requirements in studio and art history, and present a senior exhibition of their work. Visits to a variety of schools in the greater Columbus area provide a thorough preparation for a career in art education.

Space is dedicated to art education classes enabling students to use materials to create prototypes of lessons they might teach. This space is equipped with a wide range of materials typically found in primary and secondary school classrooms. See the Department of Education site for more information about licensure programs at Otterbein.
